Abstract
In today's highly competitive market, the quality of the performance of sports writers is an important factor in retaining readers, and sports writers maintain the readers' enthusiasm by writing about sports games, participants, performance analysis, and a constant flow of news and news reports. According to that, the purpose of this qualitative research is the analysis and identification of the basic competencies required on part of the sports writers based on the practitioner’s characteristics and requirements, experiential requirements, professional requirements, job characteristics and features, and specific professional needs. In terms of the purpose, the method of this research is applied and in terms of nature and method, it is descriptive-survey which was conducted via a 69-item Delphi questionnaire based on six components of the O*NET model whose validity and reliability were approved by the experts. Based on the fuzzy Delphi method, 10 authors were selected through the purposive non-probability sampling method. After conducting three stages of polling and reaching consensus among the experts, 56 criteria were finally identified. Despite these criteria, a standard for accepting sports writers can be provided for managers. Based on the results, a sports writer should use his/her creativity to motivate and attract the readers. This may mean traveling to the competitions, researching current sports events, making calls for accessing internal information, or tracking the resources. Sports writers need to look for information that is not found elsewhere and analyze the mental aspects of the game to deliver successful content.
