Abstract
With the development of technology and the changing of the audience tastes, using the new formats of message presentation seems necessary. This research is looking for a new format for broadcasting news on the radio; a format that combines the form of presenting and performing news with non-serious types such as entertainment and humor and helps to perpetuate the message. This study was conducted with a qualitative approach and the analytical-descriptive method with purposeful sampling, in which a radio quiz show from BBC Radio 4 broadcasted from September to October 2014 was investigated. The findings of the study show that the radio game show The News Quiz, as a new format of radio programming, has a significant effect on the audience's learning and retention with its interactive approach. This new form of radio programming has several advantages over other news presentation formats: it increases public knowledge; facilitates the audience’s understanding and keeping up with current events; develops the possibility of cooperation and partnership with social institutions; and also shows that in the interaction between news and entertainment in The News Quiz, the main approach to programming is entertainment. Therefore, while paying attention to the message presentation structures in IRIB, all program components will be designed and implemented based on the main purpose of entertainment. However, choosing the type of news or news report can also meet the informative goals.
