The media are always subject to restrictions due to the wide audience and the rapid and widespread impact of the information expressed by them. One of the important issues in this regard is the declaration of crimes and the publication of criminal records. On the other hand, publishing the details of the offender can make the community and those around him aware of the necessary precautionary measures, but on the other hand, publishing information such as image, face and place of residence of some offenders can expose the offender to retaliation or revenge. By expelling him from the society, the possibility of correcting the mentioned criminal is ruled out. Therefore, the main question of the present article is which principle should be applied in the conflict between the principle of freedom of the media and the principle of the need to respect the rights of criminals. The issue referred to in the present article has been studied and analyzed based on the approach adopted in the famous case of Jon Venables, and finally this research has concluded that disclosing the identity, crime and residence of criminals, in most cases, does not protect society. In general, it is appropriate for the media to refrain from publicizing the details of criminals and the crimes they have committed, given human rights considerations, the need to prevent retaliatory actions, and the principle of allowing criminals to be rehabilitated.
