“Fish and Cat” is a film directed by Shahram Mokri in 2013, this article is going to survey the Dominant Element in the film based on the views of Russian neo-formalists. To achieve this, we have used Jakbson’s idea, Dominant Element, and according to Russian Formalists, we have expanded it to determine the meaning. The methodology of the research is descriptive analysis and to analyze the relations between minor narratives and the “Red Colour”, we have used the descriptive correlation method as well. This could help us to reach different layers of meaning. Breaking down the scenes and shots in “Fish and Cat”, together with their analysis, led us to the fact that the red color has a very determining role and it is one of the most important dominant elements. This dominant element is not only effective on other aesthetical structures but also unites minor narratives (with two extensions in the plot). Thus, the red color in interaction with other elements directs the audience towards the climax of the story. This color in addition to having referential aspects in the globe, regarding the enigmatic issues such as suspension and excitement, also conveys fear, expectancy, and mishappening.
